Mayoral Candidate Jensen Chooses Self-Promotion in Time of Crisis

On Friday, Candidate for Mayor Eric Jensen released a video on his campaign page wherein he helps out his friend, Earl Bilbrey to promote a real estate listing in Trophy Club.

Upon first glance it would seem innocuous enough… aside from the obvious self-promotion in a time of crisis for our town.

But those who know Jensen, know how to look deeper.

Mr. Jensen noted when he posted the video that it was created a “couple of months ago”. In the video, Mr. Bilbrey quite clearly referred to Mr. Jensen as, “Former Councilman Eric Jensen”. Jensen resigned on February 3rd, 2020. Therefore, this video must be less than two months old.

However, the text in the video refers to Mr. Jensen as, “Mayor pro tem”, not “Former, Mayor pro tem”. One might take it as an editing error except for the fact that Mr. Bilbrey is a personal friend of Mr. Jensen and knew of his status when recording the video. As Mr. Bilbrey is someone known for his attention to detail, it’s hard to imagine that this was simply an oversight.

While Jensen goes on touting the great qualities of our town, the accompanying video never cuts away to any of those great amenities that Jensen speaks of. In fact, the entire video is comprised of content related to HG Sply. Why? If this segment of the video is about our great town, shouldn’t those elements be part of the video?

Immediately following Jensen’s interview, Mr. Bilbrey goes into showcasing the property that is up for sale. This makes sense because it’s a real estate video.

What Mr. Bilbrey and Jensen both leave out of the video is the fact that the home listing is for a house owned by Chris Gordon. Gordon is one of the two developers of “Old Town Development (OTD)”, the company that built both HG Sply as well as Breadwinners with $2.4 million dollars of the towns money. Sources say that Mr. Gordon is now leaving Trophy Club and has purchased a home in Florida.

Jensen, Gordon and Gordon’s business partner Justin Springfield are all good friends and have many Facebook posts of their escapades in Las Vegas … along with many others. It was Jensen, while serving on the town’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) that made the motion to approve giving OTD the cash. Jensen even made a remark that the project had a 20 year ROI … not such a good thing for the citizens except for the fact that they will get an (as yet undefined) restaurant as an amenity for the town.

So, it comes as no surprise that Jensen has made HG Sply his de facto campaign headquarters. All his meet and greets thus far have been held in this single location. In fact, Jensen has yet to promote a single other business in Trophy Club. Jensens’ core supporters, comprised mainly of those he has appointed to town boards and commissions, seem to be fixated on solely promoting HG Sply to the exclusion of other businesses.

While his post gives the appearance of helping out a “friend” and promoting the town, in reality we see yet another example that the only people Eric Jensen ever helps out or promotes … are his “friends”.

Amidst the current crisis, several of our community leaders have been sharing information and doing their part in order to support everyone in our community and keep our citizens informed while mayoral candidate Jensen chooses this message to send, only supporting and helping those in his #friendzone.
