Denton County Makes Disaster Declaration

Judge Andy Eads issues a Disaster Declaration for Denton County.

Judge Andy Eads has issued an Executive order declaring Denton County a Disaster area in response to SARS-CoV2 which causes COVID-19.

Order Number AE-20-03-18 is effective March 18, 2020 and effective until 11:00 am on March 25th or until it is either rescinded, superseded or amended.

The order forbids Public, or Private Recreational Gatherings and Community Gatherings.

Community gatherings are defined as any indoor or outdoor event of 50 or more persons in a single space. They include weddings, religious services, funerals and similar gatherings.

Recreational gatherings are indoor or outdoor events of a social or recreational nature and are subject to 10 persons or more in a single confined space. These include parties, backyard barbecues, social events sporting events and other gatherings. Private facilities such as country clubs may still operate their outdoor facilities such as golf and tennis courts but must limit indoor activities to 10 persons per room.

The order does not prohibit gatherings for multiple seperate indoor spaces in Hotels, school classrooms, child care facilities or residential buildings so long as no more than 50 people are present in a single space at the same time.

In addition the order does not apply to government buildings, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, hospital facilities (including restaurants and cafes inside these facilities) as long as persons are generally not closer than 6 ft from one another.

The order also affects all citizens in their homes. If a single person is diagnosed with COVID-19, all members of the household are ordered to remain isolated.
