Jagger’s Journey – New Playground in Trophy Club, TX
On Saturday, Mayor Nick Sanders along with Councilmen Eric Jensen cut the ribbon to officially re-open the children’s play area of Harmony Park. The play area has been under construction for about 3 months to replace the existing play equipment & play surface which had fallen into disrepair.
In a Facebook post on Saturday Mayor Sanders wrote, “It was a great morning for the Ribbon Cutting to officially open our new playground “Jaggers Journey” that is designed to accommodate children with mobility devices. We are one of 7 such playgrounds in the area and are a “Demonstration Site” for the manufacturer. The funds for this project came from Parkland Dedication Fund which was received as a result of PD30. Part of the special feature is a new surface that allows wheelchairs to roll easily while protecting all children during falls. Thanks to everyone who came out and to our Parks and Recs Board and P&R Department.”
The play equipment is developed by “GameTime” and installed by Total Recreation Products. It is designed with accessible routes of travel throughout the structure, as well as containing plenty of interactive auditory, visual, and tactile sensors for ages 5 to 12.
The new ground service the mayor referred to is made of a thick composite rubber called “Pour in Place” that allows children with wheelchairs or other mobility devices to use the play equipment while maintaining relatively cushioned fall protection.
Tiffany Nimphius, Chairperson Parks & Recreation Board was very involved with the project. “Trophy Club is well known for being an active community. To be able to offer an inclusive playground can foster play for children of all abilities. And that is a wonderful thing to offer this town, as well as members of surrounding communities” stated Mrs. Nimphius.
Also in attendance at the ceremony today was Tony Jaramillo, Director of Trophy Club Parks and Recreation who reaffirmed the towns commitment to provide opportunities for people of all abilities with participate in a sensory-rich inclusive play system.
Fire Chief Wade Carroll, along with a contingent of Trophy Clubs finest first responders also attended the ribbon cutting with a group of about 20 Trophy Club Citizens.
