For the People

Government

The Trophy Club Town Charter establishes our town as a “Home Rule” form of government. Our council consists of the Mayor and six Council Members chosen at large to represent the entire community. Council members serve three years terms with elections held each year for two of the six places. The Mayor also serves a three year term.

All elected positions with the town have term limits. For the Mayor and Council it is a maximum of two consecutive terms. A person may be re-elected after a period where they were absent from service for at least one year.

Neither the Council nor the Mayor is compensated for their service to the town. However they are reimbursed for some out of pocket expenses when conducting town business.

The Council (including the Mayor) appoint the members of designated “Commissioners” to advise the Council on specific matters. The Planning & Zoning (P&Z), Building Standards and Ethics Commissions are a few examples. With a few exceptions, these commissions are a recommending body only as all legal authority rests with the actual Council.

The Council does not actually run the day to day operations of the town. That responsibility rests with the Town Manager, who is one of only two positions that the Council actually hires in a paid position. The other being that of the Town Attorney.
