On Tuesday, four members of the Trophy Club Town Council snubbed newly elected Council Member Karl Monger on his first day.
On September 7th, Trophy Club voters took to the polls and elected Karl Monger over his opponent Tiffany Nimphius by an overwhelming majority in what are historically very close races in Trophy Club.
Mr. Monger was sworn in Tuesday evening. After being sworn in, Mr. Monger took his seat next to Mayor Nick Sanders for the duration of the Council Meeting.
Traditionally, this is the time when Council Members let bygones be bygones and each incumbent member will make a statement welcoming the incoming Council Member. It’s a tradition that has been long standing and is a show of respect … to which each of the current members received on their first council meeting.
Alicia Fleury and Mayor Nick Sanders each respectfully congratulated and welcomed Mr. Monger.
Councilmen Eric Jensen, Sean Bone, Michael Geraci & Philip Shoffner declined to welcome Mr. Monger with a statement. After an awkward silent moment when the Mayor asked if anyone else would like to make a statement to Mr. Monger, the Mayor continued with the business at hand.
It’s important to note that each of the four not only endorsed Mr. Mongers election opponent Tiffany Nimphius, but several of them actively campaigned on her behalf.
“It would appear that the bitterness with the group of four is still running its course. Let us hope that in the coming months they can come to terms with the election results, set aside their petty differences and move on with a more respectful view towards Mr. Monger” stated a towns person who desired not to be named.
